We’re building this site to make it easier for consumers in the DFW Metroplex to find and buy great tasting, locally produced food, crafts and other artisinal products. If we had a motto, it would be the same as Slow Food's--"Good, Clean and Fair." We want everything we offer for sale on this site to taste good (the food that is), be environmental friendly and we want the people who make it or raise it to get a fair price for their products.
Now that we're getting a critical mass of buyers and sellers, we've added a shopping cart to simplify purchases and coordinate the delivery of the meat, produce, fruits, breads and what have you directly to your door.
You can still buy directly from the producers listed on the site but you’ll need to do business with each of them separately and arrange for your own delivery and pick-up.
We don’t intend to supplant any of the area farmer’s markets or any of the thriving CSA (community supported agriculture) programs. Farmers markets and CSA are where many consumers first experience home grown/home made food. Nothing beats the sights and aromas of a farmer’s market or a CSA drop-off. Each provides an opportunity to mingle with your neighbors and meet the people whose food you’re going to eat.
EatGreenDFW.com is the place you come when you can’t get to the farmers market or can’t find a CSA to join, but still want to feed your family food that is good to eat, wholesome and environmentally friendly.
We have visited many of the farmers and ranchers and can assure you that they are striving to produce sustainable foods using natural biological cycles and controls. Some have been certified organic, some are trying to become certified and some are just committed to being as organic and natural as possible. We encourage you to visit them, see for yourself and get acquainted with where your food actually comes from.
While we're providing you with better ways to live "slow," we’ll also try to keep up on the latest issues surrounding local food, provide a place for the discussion of those issues and anything else and toss in a few recipes to help you better enjoy your food.
We welcome your comments.
