Robert and Meaders Moore Ozarow started Empire Baking Co.in 1994. Both had a love of good food and saw a void in Dallas for European style crusty natural breads. Shortly after, creating their line of artisan breads, they created a sandwich line, using these breads, to highlight how much importance bread plays in a good sandwich.

They use the highest quality ingredients available including King Arthur™ flour, natural sea salt, Plugra™ butter, Boars Head™ meats, local pecans, and Callebaut™ chocolate among other things. The commitment to making everything from scratch from chicken salad to chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies and blueberry muffins was and is a novelty in Dallas.

With this commitment to such high quality, they also put an emphasis on a high level of service for both wholesale and retail. Comments are always welcome, as feedback leads to better products.

Empire's retail store is located in the Inwood Village next to Gap Kids where they ell European style bread and pastries, simple cookies and gourmet sandwiches made fresh every day. Breads include San Francisco style sourdough, raisin pecan, jalapeno cheese, Calamata olive and Jewish rye, among others. Pastries include rich danishes, muffins, rugulah, and scones.

Empire also offers cookies and specialty items. Wonderful sandwiches and salads are also available and a complete list is available in the box lunch catering menu.

Empire has also served the wholesale market for over 15 years both in Dallas and around Texas and bakes fresh breads seven days a week. All of these breads are made slowly and carefully by highly skilled artisan bakers, many who have been with Empire for over ten years.

The bakery manufactures over 100 items. Most of the breads have over eight hours of fermentation and are complex to make. No preservatives, additives, conditioners, or enhancers are used and only small amounts of yeast or starter are needed. Time is the most important ingredient used in making the bread as it adds great flavor. While the product is very difficult to make, years of experience provide the most consistent product for items that are hand crafted.
