Jerry Tucker and his family have been living and raising produce in the Ennis area since 1959. From 1972 to 1995, they were the proprietors of Tucker’s Grocery in nearby Garrett where they sold produce they raised themselves in a nearby garden.
Although they got out of the grocery business in 1995, they continue to sell produce to friends and neighbors through their farm store which is open Sundays. For the past two years, Jerry has been growing produce, including sweet squash, cucumbers, okra, black-eyed peas, tomatoes and cantaloupes on several acres in Garrett that had been fallow for some 40 years before he began working it.
They are currently offering a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) full share--which is 24 weeks of fresh vegetables--for only $250 or $500 shipped to your door via UPS.
You get a half bushel of fresh vegetables every week for at least 24 weeks. (Picture a box about 13"13"x6"). A full share should provide enough vegetables for a family of four --less if you're vegetarians.
Although the farm is not certified organic, owner Jerry Tucker follows organic practices in his farming--from what he uses to fertilize his crops to what he uses to "keep the critters at bay." Actually, he says that most of the time he has "plenty of birds and beneficials that take care of it for me."
